What the calculator shows
Enter one base price, say $9.99, and the Price Localizer builds a row for all 193 countries the App Store and Google Play reach. Each row gives you four things:
- The exchange-rate price: what the stores show today if you let them convert your base number.
- An overcharging multiplier: how many times too expensive that converted price is against local purchasing power. For some markets it reads 6.7x.
- The localized price: what the app would cost if the number matched what people there can actually pay.
- The change: how far the localized price sits from the converted one, as a percentage.
The multiplier is the part that tends to stop people. Seeing your app priced at 6.7 times local buying power in a country is very different from a vague sense that emerging markets are cheaper. It is your price, in that country, today, next to the number that would actually convert a buyer.
Why the two numbers are so far apart
The gap exists because the stores do currency conversion, not localization, and those are not the same thing. When you set a base price, Apple and Google generate every other storefront by price equalization, converting your number at the current exchange rate and rounding to a local price point. That answers what $9.99 is in rupees today. It does not answer what this should cost in India.
A converted price ignores local income entirely, so a number that looks discounted on paper is still far above what most people in the market can pay. And because it tracks the exchange rate, it drifts further off as currencies move. The other column, the localized price, is set to purchasing power instead, tuned against how real apps price around the world.

In lower-income and high-inflation markets, the store's straight conversion lands on a number that looks small in local currency but still sits well above what people there would pay for an app, which is why the tool flags those markets with a multiplier several times over.
